Red-tailed Hawk

The picture of this Red-tailed Hawk was taken on Avenue C in New York City. The picture of this Red-tailed Hawk was taken with the CANON EOS7D and the CANON 100-400mm lens.

I still cannot believe that this bird landed right on the rail of my balcony on the 12th floor in the East Village and I was there to see him at 8:30 in the morning. He was comfortably perched checking out the hood and of course the many little house sparrows, pigeons and starlings one can see from my balcony.

My camera was conveniently ready to go,including my tripod, which I really needed since I was shaking with excitement. More pictures to come.

Siberian Tiger Cub

The picture of this Siberian Tiger Cub was taken at the Bronx Zoo.

I have (also) been taking pictures of the Siberian Tigers at the Bronx Zoo for many years and was especially delighted when the three cubs were born last May. If you would like to see more pictures of these Tiger, I have recently put them up on a new site. American Crow

The picture of this American Crow was taken on Fort Myers Beach Florida. The picture of this American Crow was taken with the CANON EOS7D and the CANON 100-400mm lens and the CANON 580EXII flash.

I took this picture just after sunrise and was able to get more detail in the black feathers of this bird. I was impressed on how this American Crow was able to securely perch on this delicate bush for quite awhile – at least in photography measured moments.

Yellow-throated Warbler

The picture of this Yellow-throated Warbler was taken at the Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge in Sanibel, Florida.

The picture of this Yellow-throated Warbler was taken with the CANON EOS7D and the CANON 100-400mm lens and the CANON 580EXII flash.

This was a difficult capture because the bird was very shy, very fast and very small.

Brown Pelican

The picture of this Brown Pelican on a tree top was taken at the Everglades National Park in Florida. The picture of this Brown Pelican was taken with the CANON EOS7D and the CANON 100-400mm lens and the CANON 580EXII flash.

I was on a boat tour of the 10,000 islands at Everglades National Park that runs out of Everglades City when I took this picture. This Pelican could be the posterbird for Florida.

Double-crested Cormorant Juvenile

The picture of this Juvenile Double-crested Cormorant was taken on Fort Myers Beach Florida. The picture of this juvenile Double-crested Cormorant was taken with the CANON EOS7D and the CANON 100-400mm lens and the CANON 580EXII flash.

It was such a treat to be able catch this bird in the early morning sun which shows the variation in color of its wings and the extraordinary color of its eye.

Osprey in flight

The picture of this Osprey in flight was taken in Everglades National Park near Everglades City, Florida. The picture of this Osprey was taken with the CANON EOS7D and the CANON 100-400mm lens and the CANON 580EXII flash.

This is a new composition decision for me to crop out some of the bird to create a more dynamic image. Or put another way – to try to salvage a good picture when the bird flew out of the picture frame. I had to add more blue sky on the bottom which of course for photoshop is a no brainer.

Palm Warbler at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary

The picture of this Palm Warbler was taken at the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in Naples, Florida.

The picture of this Palm Warbler was taken with the CANON EOS7D and the CANON 100-400mm lens and the CANON 580EXII flash.

I totally loved the Corkscrew Sanctuary. I visited on a cloudy, somewhat misty day and was so enchanted by the magical light and the extraordinary abundant fauna and flora throughout.
