Stuyvesant Cove is a small local park in the East Village right on the East River. Much care is taken in the landscaping and excellent gardening and there are many wildflowers and special trees. Attended a really good macro workshop Saturday August 1 given by Lloyd Spitalnik and Sandy Spitalnik at Ward Pound Ridge on macro photography and shooting insects.

The picture of this Widow Skimmer Dragonfly male was taken at a pond near New Paltz, NY July 26, 2009. The main difference between the male and female is the coloring of the abdominal segments which are the ten sections from the rear going forward towards the head.
During the Summer months, the opportunity to photograph birds slows down for awhile and the butterflies and dragon flies are abundant. We are loving to go to Ward Pound Ridge in Westchester to photograph this beautiful creatures. We went to Ward Pound Ridge last Friday and practically had the park to ourselves.
Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge is one of my favorite places in New York City to go birding. This past Sunday was a beautiful morning and the air at Jamaica Bay was perfumed with honeysuckle.
We happened upon a Black-crowned Night Heron in a bed of flowers taking in the sun on a beautiful Sunday.
After four straight days of rain, we ventured to Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge early Saturday morning at sunrise. The air was condensed insects. The birds were so happy and lively. I kept my mouth shut and took lots of pictures. I think that this Brown Thrasher is keeping his mouth open in order to consume a large protein filled brunch.
Participated in a birding workshop given through the New York City Audubon Camera Club at Sterling Forest led by David Speiser and Lloyd Spitalnik May 30. We were fortunate to be able to photograph the Golden-winged Warbler which is quickly dwindling in population.
Went to Southern Vermont for a beautiful Memorial Day Weekend and took the picture of this Blackpoll Warbler.
I went out on an amazing birding walk with the Brooklyn Bird Club in Prospect Park today, in search of Spring migrants – and there were many. Click below to see a few pictures I shot today. More to come.
