I love going to the Northern Pond area at the Bronx Zoo to take pictures of ducks. On this really cold day, most of the pond was frozen so the ducks were relegated to a small area near my camera.
How cool is that!
The weather has been so beautiful this fall. It was an extraordinary day at Jamaica Bay National Wildlife Refuge with the temperature in the sixties. The fall colors have remained at their peak for the longest time I can remember. There were many waterbirds at the East Pond in addition to this Hooded Merganser. There were Gadwalls, American Wigeons, American Coots, Green-winged Teals and Ruddy Ducks.

I spent this past Saturday and Sunday at the Jamaica Bay National Wildlife Refuge where there was lots of activity wtih many types of birds. There were a large variety of ducks and waterbirds, many Hawks and lots of Yellow-rumped Warblers and Kinglets. The fall foliage was spectacular in the clear crisp cool weather.
She just emerged from the East River and had lots of preening to accomplish.
